Mechano-Man

Filed under: Sketch — Screenhog @ 1:25 pm

This sketch started in my brain from the arm. I had an idea for a robotic arm, the detail of which I may show in a later sketch, and decided to try putting the arm on a person.

A lot of the drawings I do are doodles, with no backstory required. This one, though, makes me feel like there is some kind of history with this guy. I’d imagine he’s one of those fictional antihero characters who’s been through his share of fights and has been doing this for far too long, whatever “this” happens to be. Ordinarily, he’s in much darker and dirtier places, but today he finds himself in a clean, well-kept building – a nice house or a hotel maybe – and this puts him quite out of his element.

It’s fairly unusual for me to have ideas that go in this direction, so I thought I should go with it. On the technical side of things, I think I got his anatomy pretty accurately. As an added bonus, I can’t usually draw footwear very well, but the boots seem decent this time.

P.S. If you’re interested, you can click on the image for a much, much larger version of this scan.
P.S. #2 Yes, “Mechano-Man” is a lame name.
